December 2016, residing in Wake County and working for the State of NC, I had to relocate my father Leon Brown from Ahoskie NC to live with me, making me an instant caretaker.
During the weeks ahead I noticed that my father showed signs of depression from missing his hometown, friends, his Meherrin Nation tribal family, and most importantly his aging mother.
Early 2017, I began to look into housing options for us in the town of Ahoskie, NC. Within weeks of researching, communicating with people, and signing paperwork we were packing up and transitioning to Hertford County. I was now the owner of a historical piece of Ahoskie, NC and all with the blessings of my father.
Renovations began immediately and Leon truly enjoyed watching the progress being made on the house. He had so much FAITH in me.
Sadly, my father transitioned in 2019.
I was at a complete stand still at what to do next with the house.
After much thought I decided to let the house continue to serve its purpose of HELPING OTHERS. It was then in 2020 that the nonprofit organization Sage and Sweetgrass at the Bradshaw House Inc. was formed. A 501c3 non-profit organization serving Eastern NC in providing resources and housing to those in need.
Sage & Sweetgrass = HEALING PLANTS
Bradshaw = Belinda's fathers middle name.
Save your aluminum cans and donate them to Sage and Sweetgrass at the Bradshaw House Inc. As a 501c3 non-profit organization we have to think of several ways to make money to keep our mission up and running.
There are absolutely no shelters in the Town of Ahoskie or Hertford County and we do our very best to fill that void.
We are currently housing 10 individuals and every dollar counts in providing for our
